For Migraine Prevention "I was having several migraines monthly. My insurance company covered me for the Aimovig 70mg, and I began the monthly injections. I noticed that it worked immediately preventing my migraines but I began to crave sugar, and struggled to keep the weight off. Then, I needed to change insurance companies and I was covered for the 140mg, so my doctor switched me to the 140mg. I used the 140mg for a two month period, and I began to feel exhausted, fatigued, achy, increase of appetite and sugar cravings. I am a dance teacher who teaches weekly, but I have gained 12 pounds since going on Aimovig. My doctor had originally told me the only side effect is constipation, but after reading others' experiences with this drug, I am relieved to know that I am not alone. I am going off Aimovig completely to get my weight and energy level back under control, and will take my Imitrex when needed."

For Migraine Prevention "I have only had one dose of Aimovig so far (2 x 70mg) but it has definitely helped. I average 15 to 18 migraines a month and since taking it have only had 9 and only 4 more days in the month. I've also noticed a big decrease in the hangovers from the migraines. They were getting debilitating and, so far, I have not had one since taking Aimovig. This is nothing less than a miracle for me. I have had migraines for 40 years and have tried every preventative med there is and absolutely nothing worked. Not even a little. I only gave it 7 out of 10 right now only because I've only had one dose and am not sure it will keep working. I will update after a couple more months. So far I am so happy. I just hope I qualify for the copay assistance. Trying to get through to Aimovig is not an easy task."

For Migraine Prevention "Tried Aimovig samples for severe daily headaches as a result of a brain stem injury. For the first ten days I was headache free. However after that the headaches returned. I also experienced weight gain, bloating, nausea, scalp & eye itching, severe hair loss (literally lost 1/2 of my hair) muscle & joint aches & pains, chills and fatigue above & beyond the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome I already suffer from. I'll go back to my double dose of Botox thank you. After reading the side effects experienced by so many relative to success I too wonder how Aimovig ever received FDA approval."

For Migraine Prevention "Took my first 70 shot three days ago. Headaches have changed in characteristics but occur more frequently and are harder to abort. General feeling of low energy, but so far no body aches or other flu like symptoms. Also no relief. Unfortunately once it’s in you it’s in you for a month so I’ll have to ride it out. Unless something miraculous happens between now and the 2nd dose I’ll take a pass."

For Migraine Prevention "I took my first shot May 8. I wish I never did. Told barely any side effects. Had migraines for over 20 years. This medicine did stop my headaches so far in the three weeks on it. BUT.. now suffering from severe constipation. I'm am taking every laxative under the sun daily or twice daily. Palpitations almost every day. Racing fluttering heart which my fitbit is showing. No energy. And ringing in my ears. I can't wait for this to wear off. It's not worth it. Hope I can get regular bowel motion again. And yes the fuzziness in the brain. Every side effect was immediately after first and only injection. The miracle turned into a nightmare."

For Migraine Prevention "Aimovig reduced the number of migraines and for many months I thought it was life-changing. Unfortunately I’ve been overwhelmed with side effects and have stopped taking it. Since taking Aimovig I’ve been having chronic indigestion, severe constipation, hair loss and depression. I hope that side effects reverse over time."

For Migraine Prevention "I took my 2nd dose of Aimovig on September 8th. Since then I have felt as the others have. More intense migraines, more flashing lights, tired, stabbing pains in my head. Now being a week out, I can’t calm down! I feel like I am crawling out of my skin. Almost like I drank cup after cup of coffee. As others have said, I have tried many other medicines. None help. Not even to lessen the intensity. I feel short of breath. I know I am out of shape, but who really wants to exercise when you hurt! Does anyone else feel like no one “gets” you when it comes to having migraines? I have basically my family and even they are tired of me and my migraines! I don’t know."

For Migraine Prevention "I will update later; I took the shot for the 1st time last night, 11/29/18. I experienced a change the very next day- 11/30/18- slight nausea, and something akin to light headedness. It is almost like...something going on with the headache, blocking the pain. I have chronic daily headache, have for 17 years. I get about 5-7 migraines a month. Sometimes lasting 3 days. For me to have a moment pain free is a blessing, as I am almost always in pain. Being alive is a constant struggle. At this point the drug company is paying for the medication- if it works, I would give anything to continue receiving it. My insurance doesn't cover it."

For Migraine Prevention "ITS WONDERFUL! Have gotten migraines since age 2. They've increased in severity & frequency as I've gotten older (now 46) and after MVA's. Muscle tension headaches (HA) were leading to migraines. I tried the list of all preventative meds, no help. Everyday I had some degree of HA/avg 4 bad HA a week, as much as 26/month. Taking rescue meds, pain meds and once in a while prednisone. Trying not to use meds as much as possible to help prevent rebound HA & to be kind to my kidneys. I get botox every 3 months & trigger point injections. Triptans only aggravated my neck pain the tension HA/migraine cycle. Sometimes nothing worked. My 1ST injection was 8/30/18. I went 7 days with no HA at ALL. I could feel twinges & then they would just disappear. I have had 4 bad migraines where I gave myself a toradol shot and 2 so so HA's. But in between I have ZERO headache. I don't wake up with one, don't feel the aftermath of the big headache after, they're just gone. Ready for 2nd injection"

For Migraine Prevention "I began taking Aimovig January 6th, 2019 and continued for three months. No change in my migraines (still 15 or 20 a month) so I quit. Then in April I only had 4 headaches, so started again in May. Last injection was July 6th. By then I was suffering from exhaustion and shortness of breath. Didn’t connect the symptoms until my daughter found this site. I read that it takes 5 months to get out of your system, but I expected a slight improvement every week. It didn’t happen. On December 20 I couldn’t walk a block without assistance and was despairing. However , Christmas Day I felt different. Today I walked 2.5 km and now have more or less normal days. Still have to get my muscle tone back. I am 77 so can’t expect miracles. I get migraines every 2 or 3 days but would never return to Aimovig, and am nervous about any new drug."

For Migraine Prevention "I thought Aimovig was going to be amazing! I had tried so many other medicines. This was my last ditch attempt. Injection was fine, but a week after, I started getting car sick every time I drove, then when I stayed on my computer too long, then when I was working, or watching my kids move. IT WAS AWFUL. I am taking Zofran daily to prevent the dizziness. I cannot wait for this drug to leave my system. Not to mention the hair loss. I do not even want to brush my hair anymore the loss is so extreme. I take no other medications that would cause this. This has been my only change in medicine and the dizziness it the WORST. Please consider reading these posts before you commit to the Rx (learn from my mistake)"

For Migraine Prevention "I’ve had migraines for >9 years- 30d/month. After Botox, they decreased to 15d/mo. I began Aimovig 1 y ago. After dose #1(70mg), the headaches stopped, but I had severe constipation & fatigue requiring treatment. After Dose#2, I had muscle cramps & spasms 24/7. At 6 months, I started 140mg doses. 3 days after my 1st 140mg dose, I had a severe rash w/hives, blisters/skin sloughing, severe joint pain, stiff fingers, wrists, feet, muscle cramping/spasms worsened, constipation, abdominal pain & cramping, nausea, excessive bruising, neck pain & jaw stiffness, insomnia, swelling of hands, face, lips, extremities began within 1 week of 140 mg dose. I was given steroids, antihistamines, NSAIDS, muscle relaxants, pain meds with minimal improvement. With a misdiagnosis of "poison ivy", I continued the Aimovig. Symptoms got worse. A timeline revealed the symptoms correlated to the doses. I have been unable to work. I'm off Aimovig, but symptoms may last 5 months until it clears from my system."

For Migraine Prevention "I began using Aimovig since it came out on the market. I went from 18-20 migraines a month down to 7-8. I tend to get them about a week before I’m due for my injection and the first few days after. I have noticed in the past few months that it’s isn’t as effective as it had been but still a huge reduction in migraine days."

For Migraine Prevention "2nd dose, The first dose I wasn’t sure if it was a relapse of my MS that was making me dizzy, fatigue, short of breath, heart palpitations, space out , and my gut was giving me a little trouble. I’m usually constipated so it was a change. I didn’t refill the medication until my headaches got unbearable and I finally bent and retried the Aimovig to see if it was the medication or a flare I was going through. It was definitely the Aimovig. This time the side effects were much worse. My stomach feels like it’s gnawing on itself and my brain symptoms are magnified x100 if you have a neurological issues you’ll know what I’m talking about. I’m going to have to file a complaint with the FDA ."

For Migraine Prevention "I’ve been on this medication less than a week. I take no other supplements or drugs other than a blood pressure medication for mild hypertension. I am a 54 yr old female in excellent health but have 12-16 migraines per month. I’m a TBI survivor. Even with Miralax and laxitives I am having bowel problems, major stomach cramping, horrible bloating. I look 3 months pregnant . I’m nauseous, have vertigo and my head is very fuzzy. I saw a neurologist for the first time last week and immediately placed me on the 140 mg dosage. My head hurts and unlike a typical migraine for me. I’m dreading the next 3.5 weeks and will not inject a second time. All other trials of migraine preventer failed or little efficacy. I would not recommend this medication to an acute or chronic migraineur. Side effects are a nightmare. I’ll take the migraines versus what this feels like. I’ve dealt with those for 24 years! THIS DRUG NEEDS MORE RESEARCH AND OBVIOUS IMPROVEMENT!"

For Migraine Prevention "I just took this 2 days ago, so I can’t say if it completely works to prevent migraines yet. I absolutely have no energy & I’m super spacey. I read the reviews for this medication after the injection & I’m kicking myself now. I listened to my doctor who told me that the only side effect was constipation. From what I’m reading people about 10 days after taking this medication have severe fatigue. Well I’m only 2 days out, & can’t keep my eyes open barely to write this review. I have a 2 year old toddler & this has been difficult so I can’t imagine how the rest of the month will be. I’m regretting this decision so much. I normally have slight fatigue because I have a toddler, so if u normally feel a little fatigue then my suggestion would be not to take this drug. The first day after taking it, I had a migraine all day long. Normally I have them at night. Today it’s SEVERE FATIGUE. I rather take other medication then deal w/this for a month! Never again!"

For Migraine Prevention "I suffered from chronic migraines for about two years and episodic for about twenty. I took Aimovig for 5 months. I quit because of severe side effects, the worst side effect being high blood pressure, which was difficult to control even with medication. I would wake up with my systolic 188 to 200. Once, my BP was 239/120. I had to seek medical treatment. It is a miracle I did not have a stroke. Fortunately, after 6 months, it has returned to normal. Be cautious."

For Migraine Prevention "I suffer from 25 migraines per month. I tried Amiovig on a trial basis for 4 months. I do have Raynauds Syndrome, so my feet & hands are always cold, however the symptoms increased to finger numbness. I also had extreme mood swings, more so depression & elevated anxiety for which I also take medication. The anxiety has been tremendous! Also, I had 2 rounds of antibiotics due to intestinal inflammation, 2 CT scan with radiation dye tests that were negative. I am so disappointed by this medication as none of my symptoms were listed as side effects for this medication. I'd rather suffer migraine pain than have the severe hopelessness I've experienced, as well as severe bloating that was initially diagnosed as diverticulitis!! I was hospitalized for a week & misdiagnosed!! Does any one know how long it takes for symptoms to go away once stopping Aimovig??"

For Migraine Prevention "I am so sad I didn’t read these reviews before taking my 2nd shot. After the first I felt miserable for about 3 weeks. I felt nauseous, dizziness, fatigue, muscle weakness, upset stomach, foggy headed, could focus or follow a conversation, panic attacks and depression for the first time in my entire life. It subsided and I was blaming how I was feeling on a different med. I felt better after three weeks from my first injection at 1 month I took my second the next day EVERYTHING came back! I’m so so upset. It absolutely took my migraines away but I would gladly take a migraine over this feeling. I feel like we are all lab rats they’re testing this out on."

For Migraine Prevention "PLEASE BEWARE!!!!!! I’m on my 3rd week from 1st Aimovig injection. This drug has already cut my migraines in half, however, the side effects are unbearable!! 1. Horrible ringing in the ears that doesn’t go away. 2. When I do get a migraine, it is the WORST I’ve ever had, feels like I’m going to stroke-out. My Imitrex/sumitriptan does nothing...no longer works for some reason, and I’ve been on for 20yrs with no problem. 3. Joint pain, legs feel like jello when I walk. 4. EXTREME fatigue!! 5. Constipation (that was the only thing listed). I am told it takes 5 months for this drug to leave your body"

For Migraine Prevention "Aimovig has been a nightmare for me. Side effects (of which I was not warned) started within 10 days of the first injection and have continued (it's now 6 months since my last injection). Significant joint pain, hot flashes, itching, hair loss, weight gain. Joint pain makes it difficult to sleep as well as get out of bed in the morning. Getting out of a chair is very difficult without help. This drug has significantly changed my life for the worse. And it did nothing for my HA. Buyer beware!"

For Migraine Prevention "Update 1 year: +/- one migraine/month, usually in week before injection. Negs: Pharmacy often lags in filling prescription. Got a dud injector and it took 2 weeks to get replacement. The 1/2 life of Aimovig in the body is 28 days: I was late enough in getting my injection that I got a migraine 2 days after my shot. Some of the drug sometimes seeps out of the injection site after I remove the needle. Given small dose, any amount of drug lost is a problem. I think this is a design failure of the autoinjector. Original: Significant drop in complicated migraine episodes. Had near-constant migraines. Also had severe vertigo for more than a year (may have been vestibular migraine). My migraines manifest with nausea, aura, neuralgia, extreme sensitivity to light, sound and odors, and muscle spasms in my neck and jaw. I used to wake up most mornings with a “sick headache” feeling in my occipital region. That has disappeared. My only possible side effect is dry mouth."

For Migraine Prevention "I took Aimovig for the first time 3 weeks ago. My doc first tried Emgality. He wanted to try the different types of injectables. I also take Zolmitriptan and Sumatriptan. The side effects are horrible. My doc put me on LOA (Leave of Absence) as a result. I have heart palpitations and what seems like a panic attack without the panic. My heart rate will jump for no reason and I will feel dizzy, tremors...everything but the panic. So bizarre. My head feels foggy and I can't concentrate. Heavy chest/difficulty breathing. Going to bed at 7:30 because of exhaustion. I feel barely alive. FYI. Chronic migraine sufferer for 15 years. 18 -15 days per month I have migraines. I have tried most meds, acupuncture, botox, even medical cannabis. This is NOT the medication for me."

For Migraine Prevention "Took my first dose August 13th. I average 18-20 migraine days per month so I was really hoping for this to be a miracle treatment and I think it actually is reducing the number of headaches per month, but I do not think I can handle the trade-off. First month I experienced extreme constipation for two weeks so I called my Physician who recommended taking miralax three times a day. I did that for a few days and then my system turned and I started experiencing extreme diarrhea to the point that I thought I had a stomach virus or flu, aching, bloating, very sick. I had one week of a relatively normal gastrointestinal system before my second dose arrived. Second dose September 13th. Never had the constipation, skipped directly to stomach virus/flu like symptoms and have been in that state for six days. I am maintaining a dull headache typically associated with something like the flu, not a migraine, along with body aches and general fatigue."
